Ethics Statement

For My Viewers

  • Your trust is the most valuable aspect of my business and guides my choices and actions.

  • I will remain vigilant in my efforts to never compromise my view on a subject due to a sponsor.

  • Promoted brand products or services are things I already use or would want to use for myself, and that I stand behind.

  • Based on these tenets, if you ever feel that I’ve violated your trust, please contact me.

For Sponsors

  1. Your brand must be a fit for my audience’s interests.

  2. Your product or service must be well-regarded and reputable.

  3. While you may review the sponsor portion of a video prior to publishing, you will not have any editorial control over the video itself.

NOTE: I will NOT work with the following brands: stock or investing apps, alcohol, tobacco, adult related, gambling, or politics.

How I Earn Money

Integrations

YouTube’s Adsense rates are a rollercoaster of revenue, which makes it an unreliable way to run a business. The most reliable method of revenue for my services is sponsored integrations. This is sometimes referred to as a “shout out,” which is usually a 30-60 second segment talking about a product or service. There is always a clear call out at the beginning of a video (ie. “This video is brought to you by …”), as well as verbal and visual call outs during the integration. Because of my sponsored integrations, I’ve been able to build up a team to produce quality content consistently over time.

AdSense

A large portion of revenue comes from YouTube AdSense rates. As I mentioned above, it’s not reliable nor easy to estimate ad rates or how each video will perform. I typically reserve AdSense placements as pre-roll and post-roll ads and avoid mid-roll ads during the video as much as possible (especially if there’s a sponsored integration).

Memberships

Probably the best and more reliable source of income comes from memberships, like Patreon. Compared to integrations and AdSense, this is a smaller source of income. However, this money plays a key role in planning and budgeting to support the core of the business. And my Patrons bring an intangible benefit: support and ideas. Patrons have provided insight into many of the topics covered on the channel, introductions to people in the industry, and more. Patreon is a huge boost for my work, beyond the monetary aspect.

Affiliates

Affiliates played a bigger role in the channel when Undecided was just starting out and a much smaller channel. Today, I still participate in several affiliate programs, like EnergySage, TeslaFi, Amazon, and Build with Rise. If I mention any of these in a video, I always call out that I’m part of an affiliate program (same for any links in the description). I feel that transparency is critical and always strive to keep my viewers fully informed.

Securities

I am a long-term investor and don’t engage in short-term trading. The vast majority of my investments are in ETFs, but I do also own a small number of shares in a few tech companies. So small it’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things. These investments do not influence my coverage or opinions on any of my productions. For full transparency though, I thought it was important to call these out:

  • Apple

  • Arrival

  • Disney

  • Enphase

  • LiCycle

  • QuantumScape

  • Tesla
